A higher standard of care

Rebecca Skirmont, DVM

Dr. Rebecca Skirmont DVM of Fairfield Equine Services

Dr. Rebecca Skirmont is originally from Northern Illinois, where she discovered her passion for horses at a young age competing in 3-Day Eventing and Polo.

Dr. Skirmont moved to Colorado in 2009 where she received her bachelors and doctoral degrees from Colorado State University (CSU). She pursued her undergraduate studies in animal science and shortly after began working as an equine veterinary technician at the university’s veterinary teaching hospital. There she committed to developing her skills in all aspects of equine care, but most specifically in emergency medicine and critical care.

Upon completion of her DVM program in 2018, Dr. Skirmont moved to New Jersey to complete a rotating internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center with an emphasis in sports medicine and diagnostic imaging – finding her love for treating the equine athlete.

Her pursuits finally brought her to South Florida in 2019 where Dr. Skirmont has been at practice in Wellington with a focus in equine sports medicine.

To further aid her “whole horse” approach to lameness, Dr. Skirmont became certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy.

The addition of CVSMT to her practice has been an amazing adjunct therapy to traditional sports medicine treatments – improving acute and chronic conditions in her patients.

Outside of work, Dr. Skirmont enjoys spending time with her husband Ryan, son Myles, and her two Australian Shepherds (Ollie and Bodie).
