A higher standard of care

Ceretom CT

Computed tomography or “CT” is a highly detailed cross-sectional image created from a series of x-rays taken from multiple angles around a specific region.

These images allow us to look at a specific “slice” through the bone to eliminate superimposition of other structures for more accurate interpretation.

It is the best imaging tool for assessing structural changes to the bone.

A CT scan takes only 1-2 minutes, making it an excellent aid for surgical planning without significantly increasing time under general anesthesia.

CT scans can be acquired by themselves with a brief anesthetic procedure. Our team is able to facilitate quick image acquisition, making the anesthetic procedure shorter than even a standard castration.

Horses are monitored constantly by our anesthetist, and recovered with assistance in a padded recovery stall, making this a safe, expeditious procedure.

What Conditions Can Be Diagnosed with CT Imaging?

  • Pathology within the hoof capsule o Coffin bone fractures, navicular bone fractures, keratomas.
  • Slab fractures of the carpus and tarsus
  • Subchondral bone cysts
  • Complete configuration of complex fractures can be obtained to assist with prognostication and repair

The majority of these pathologies are diagnosed and surgically corrected in the same anesthetic event.
