Rick is originally from North Carolina where he participated in foxhunting and hunter/jumper competitions from childhood to an adult. He is a senior partner of Fairfield Equine Associates basing much of his practice in the Tryon NC region and Wellington, FL.
His primary interests are performance related issues, lameness and imaging. Rick has served as an official veterinarian for the US Equestrian Team at six Olympic Games as well as multiple Pan American and World Games.
He has been internationally certified in veterinary acupuncture and equine locomotor pathology and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Rick has authored many nationally and internationally published articles and textbook chapters on equine health care and welfare. He has served on multiple Boards of Directors including USEF, Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the EQUUS Foundation as well as serving currently as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the American Horse Council.
He is the current Chair of the Foundation for the Horse Development Council. He was a founding member of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) and currently serves on its Board of Directors.
